Stamp duty is stopping people from moving homes

 

Domain reports that one percentage point increase in stamp duty causes the number of home purchases to decline by over 7%. In New South Wales alone if stamp duty were scrapped on real estate transactions it is estimated 100,000 more Australians would move homes each year. The Henry Tax Review found stamp duty was inequitable as it taxes the people who most need to or want to move.
